At Akiva, we recognize the importance of middle school education as the foundation for a love of lifelong learning. In an environment steeped in patience, encouragement, attention to individual needs and emotional growth, the Middle School Department seeks to imbue each child with the ability to build upon their innate talent.
Our General Philosophy:
The core elements of the Middle School Encore Program include Torah, Mitzvot, love of Israel and introduction to Hebrew language. These elements, along with introduction to English Language Arts, reading readiness, mathematics and the sciences are all a part of the Akiva curriculum, and integrated into our students’ daily routine through developmentally appropriate lessons.
Our loving and professionally certified instructors create an atmosphere where Akiva’s youngest students can build friendships and explore the world around them in a secure and nurturing environment.
The Humanities, including the arts and music each play their role in our multi-layered curriculum. Physical exercise through playground recess, gym and yoga give children the opportunity to build healthy bodies and exercise their minds.
Creative means of expression are encouraged through peer interaction, story time, arts and crafts, and behavior modeling – all of which provide intellectual and emotional growth for Akiva students.
Flexible scheduling allows for children to grow and develop at their own pace. Each child is ensured their needs will be met by significant one-on-one interaction with teachers.
Our Pledge To Parents and Students:
Akiva Hebrew Day School's Middle School Encore Department will:
- Provide a warm Jewish environment that nurtures the whole child and enables each one to reach his or her highest potential.
- Help each and every child develop an appreciation of Jewish culture, text, and ritual.
- Instill ethical standards and Jewish values that support the Modern Orthodox lifestyle.
- Provide a supportive and academically challenging learning environment that meets the developmental needs of each student.
- Employ creative and experienced teachers who are masters at understanding the learning process.
- Encourage the support and value of the whole family involvement in the child’s education.
- Guide and teach by tolerance, respect and compassion.
- Communicate with parents to ensure their and their children’s emotional, spiritual and academic needs are being met.
Akiva imbues its students with a passion for Am Yisrael, our people and the State of Israel.
