JARC, one of metropolitan Detroit’s most venerable social institutions, provides social services to a host of Jewish organizations throughout the area, including its School Inclusion Program for Jewish day schools like Akiva.
By partnering with day schools and client parents to provide the necessary support for children with varying degrees of developmental and social disabilities, JARC enables and empowers these children to attend school with their same-age peers.
JARC employs a team of consultants, and provides classroom assistants, in developing a plan of action that allows children with any disabilities to remain in an integrated setting – and develop their skills and abilities at their own pace.
Because taxpayer-funded public schools are mandated by law to provide these services, JARC’s School Inclusion Program does not operate in public school facilities.
JARC also helps children obtain access to a variety of services they need to excel – and to which they are entitled – at area agencies and schools. JARC can also assist with school meetings and help families navigate the complex mental health system.
