Akiva’s Successful Sulam Program Expands!

LadderAkiva’s Sulam (Learning Ladder) program has expanded significantly since the school year began, and we expect additional services to be added as the year progresses. Classes organized at varied levels of learning based on knowledge and skills already mastered ensure student success. The classes are fluid and meet the needs of individual students. Some of the current programs offered through the Sulam program at Akiva include:

Sulam Math Enrichment for students who have advanced math skills and are interested in the challenge of higher-level mathematics.

Sulam Computer Science Enrichment for middle- and upper-school students meets weekly after school.

Sulam Homework Helper for students in grades 6-12 is a weekly after school drop-in service. Support is provided in English and Social Studies subjects, including assistance in research projects and other longer-term assignments. This is an extremely valuable opportunity for students to take advantage of teacher-guided homework assistance. A Sulam Homework Helper for Judaic Studies and Ivrit is being developed.

Sulam Study Skills classes are held once a week for a four week period during one hour of the school day. All 6th through 8th grade students will participate in the four-week series, as middle school is an ideal time to learn the skills needed to effectively and successfully navigate the demands of a highly academic program such as that offered at Akiva. Strategies in study techniques, test taking, note taking, reading, writing and organization are reviewed in the class.

Keep watching for new and exciting programs to continue to be implemented under the Sulam program!
